Dinas Cricket Club Weekly Round Up

Dinas 1st XI travelled to Ebbw Vale with only a solitary win under their belt this term.

After winning the toss the Villagers elected to bat, and built a very respectable total of 253-8, largely centred around Curtis Wingren's 72.

As the batting showed signs of improvement over recent weeks there were decent contributions from Kyle Hughes (45), Gordon Hannah (37) and Gihan Fernando (35).

In response Sam Marlow got Ebbw's dangerman relatively cheaply, and thereafter it was the Dinas bowlers on top as the home side were eventually bowled out for 177 giving Dinas victory by 76 runs.

Relegation still looks odds on, but there were some encouraging signs in this second win of the season.

The 2nds entertained Vale CC 2nds in a top of the table clash at Bryn y Don.

The visitors won the toss and chose to bat, getting to 221-7 in their 40 overs.

Dinas were guilty of some indifferent fielding, although Alun Harris took one stunning catch.

Rain arrived just as Vale's innings was coming to an end, and covers went on over the tea break.

After an extended break, Dinas got their reply under way, but opener Harris went early to a leading edge.

Vale bowled tightly and fielded well, and most of the Villagers top order was guilty of getting themselves out after a start - Lewis Clarke (19), Nathan Bennet (24), and Smith (13), all holing out unnecessarily.

The bottom half by comparison couldn't keep out the straight ones, and although James Hiscocks (24 not out) showed a good mix of disciplined defence and aggressive shots, the damage was done as the Villagers were bowled out on 132. An important trip to Blaengarw and Coedely awaits next weekend.

The 3rds entertained Ebbw Vale's 2nds on the Common.

The visitors won the toss and batted, but were bowled out for just 107, and it could have been a lot less as skipper Gareth Storey mixed the bowling up.

There were 2 wickets apiece for Geoff Colley (2-5) and Rhys Bradley (2-21) and a wicket each for Storey, Olly Hurley, Simon Wilton, Roy Davies, Rob Tucker and Geoff Marlow.

In response Dinas made short work of chasing down the total after the early loss of last week's centurion Tucker, with Olly Hurley 31 not out and Miles Wilton reaching his 50 with the winning runs, to win by 9 wickets in just 15.3 overs.

Next Saturday:

  • 1's v home (Bryn y Don) v Lisvane 12.30pm
  • 2's away v Blaengarw & Coedely
  • 3's away v Abergavenny 3's
