Penarth's Owen Morgan, owner of Bar44 group, has been voted in as a new Caballero to the Gran Orden de Caballeros del Vino.

The Gran Orden was established in 1985 by Wines From Spain to recognise and reward outstanding achievement in the education, advancement and business of quality wines from Spain in the United Kingdom.

Owen was invested in last night, during the 36th Caballeros Investiture Dinner at London's Savoy.

The event welcomed the new Spanish Ambassador to London, his Excellency José Pascual Marco Martínez, and the General Director of ICEX, Ms. Elisa Carbonell.

Owen was invested alongside José Pizarro of José Pizarro Restaurants and Peter Sisseck, of Dominio de Pingus and Viña Corrales to the Orden, as they are all renowned for their unstinting work and commitment to Spanish wine, as winemakers, restaurateurs and communicators.

A great lover of Spanish wines, and in particular Sherry and the Cádizregion of Andalucía, Owen is a Certified Sherry Educator.

Co-owner of the Bar44 group of bars and restaurants, he has gathered many well-deserved accolades along the way, including one of the Best 25 New Restaurants in the UK and one of the top 50 influencers in the UK restaurant and bar trade.

His family and team at Bar44 said they were "over the moon".

"Owen has been recognised for his unique contribution and we couldn't be more proud of him today!"

"He's in good company with José Pizarro and Peter Sisseck as well. Now, is it too early for a celebration sherry?!"

Commenting on the investiture, Sarah Jane Evans MW, Chair of the GOCV said: "It was terrific to be back together in person once more celebrating Spain.

"The Dinner has always been a highlight for the wine world; and this year was particularly special, after so long apart. We were all delighted to welcome our new Caballeros and congratulate them on their very

significant work on behalf of Spain's fine wines."
