Cardiff South and Penarth MS Vaughan Gething has been learning how volunteers help raise funds for Marie Curie at the leading end of life charity's shop on Windsor Road, Penarth.

Mr Gething MS spent an hour getting to know staff and volunteers and hearing the latest about the work the charity does during his visit.

The Penarth shop helps raise funds for care delivered at the Marie Curie Hospice, Cardiff and the Vale on Bridgeman Road, just over half a mile away. As well as helping fund the charity's Hospice Care at Home service and its free Information and Support phone line.

Marie Curie provides expert end of life care for people with any illness they are likely to die from, in the comfort of their own home or at one of its nine hospices, and support for their family and friends.

Mr Gething said: "It has been a pleasure to visit the Marie Curie shop on Windsor Road and help volunteers with their jobs for the day.

"Meeting the staff and volunteers and hearing stories about the care provided in the region for people living with a terminal illness has been inspiring."

Marie Curie Retail Manager Dawn Parsons said: "Our team were delighted to welcome Mr Gething to the shop and have him help with some of the aspects of the work volunteers and staff do.

"We are always looking for donations of good quality stock for the shoppers of Penarth to pick up a bargain in aid of a good cause, so please pop in with your donated items or to find out more about how you can volunteer.

"Marie Curie shops are the face of the charity in high streets across the UK, selling high quality pre-loved clothing, homeware, accessories, books, and gifts. Every penny helps us care for more people at the end of life, and those close to them. From expert hospice care, in the comfort of home or one of our hospices, to reassurance and practical support over the phone when it's needed most."

Volunteers are a vital part of the Marie Curie team, ensuring shops can stay open and continue to raise crucial funds. To find out more about how you can volunteer in one of Marie Curie's 102 shops around the UK visit : mariecurie.org.uk/shopvolunteer
