James Sommerin, the Michelin star restaurant situated on the Esplanade in Penarth, will launch a takeaway menu next week after being closed since the lockdown was announced in March.

The team behind the successful eatery have been very busy prepping and delivering meals to key workers, NHS staff and helping the local community throughout this difficult period.

But soon you will be able to order quality, delicious food to enjoy at your home.

In a message to customers they said: ''As most of you will be aware since we had to close on 21st March we have been cooking for the NHS, what started as a donation of meals Georgia and I cooked using up ingredients we had and didn't want to go to waste soon escalated, we were asked by Kaz, from Waterloo tearooms to be part of the charity that was being set up to receive donations for different businesses in the area to be able to cook and supply meals on a regular basis for our front line workers who are putting their lives at risk on a daily basis.

''Cooking a little bit of food and keeping them nourished is a very small bit that we can do to help them.

''We have absolutely loved doing this and will continue to as long as we can and as long as we are needed. It has certainly kept me sane over the past few weeks.

"We do have some further news, from Saturday 16th May we will be starting our take away service, unfortunately, due to bills and rent building, we have to try and earn some income if we as a family and business are going to survive this pandemic.

"As good as the government has been with us being able to furlough our staff (which we are very grateful for), we have been unsuccessful in any further grants and our insurance is looking very unlikely to payout.

"We are going to be offering a choice of 2 three-course menus on Saturday and traditional Sunday roast on Sunday (also 3 courses), if the demand is there we will increase the days we offer our take away.

"Menus will change weekly. We will be operating a voucher system for this to limit contact. These will be obtained directly from our website in the voucher section under click and collect.

"We are hoping that you will support us and know that although it is a take away offering the food we produce is all made fresh and with the best ingredients, it is also made with love! We are having to diversify what we do and with only myself, Georgia and Lou heading it up, it is going to be tough but as they say, needs must.

"Thank you all and please stay safe and follow Government guidelines, we know it is hard but if we stay strong we will all come out of this stronger.

"Love James, Louise and Girls."
