Art History Lecture - Sorolla, Setting the Mediterranean Alight!
Penarth Pier Pavilion
UNTIL Tuesday 24th May
We are delighted to welcome Stella Grace Lyons, the Arts Society accredited Art History Lecturer and Speaker, to Penarth Pier Pavilion, for the third in our series of monthly art history lectures.
This month's lecture is entitled, Sorolla: Setting the Mediterranean Alight.
In his lifetime, Sorolla was considered the most famous artist to come from Spain. More Spanish than the Alhambra, more passionate than Flamenco, sunnier than a holiday in Marbella, he captured in his paintings all the exuberance of his native country. So why don't we know more about him?
This talk will explore the so-called Spanish 'Master of Light', from his paintings of sunlit beaches and gardens to scenes of fishermen and rural life, as well as portraits of the love of his life, his wife Clotilde.
Following the lecture, please stay for tea and some delicious homemade cake, served in our beautiful Art Gallery.
