Join us in March for art history lecturer, Stella Grace Lyons's fascinating talk on the secret language of birds in art history.
Birds have always proved attractive subjects for artists.
They appear in ancient cave paintings, religious scenes, landscapes, still life paintings and the most cutting-edge contemporary art.
Birds have been woven into the art of every culture and era. Are they symbols of creation, freedom, and the human soul, divine messengers or mystical creatures, or are they merely decorative objects, there to provide interest in the composition?
Join us as we uncover the beauty, power, and mystery of birds in art. We will investigate bird sightings transcend even the most dedicated twitcher's wildest dreams!
'Without sacrificing scholarship, Stella Grace Lyons has a most engaging way of hooking an audience into sharing her passionate interest in art history, drawing three dimensional human stories and experiences from the two-dimensional canvas'
- Maev Kennedy, Guardian Arts Correspondent
Following the talk, please stay for tea and cake, served in the Pavilion's beautiful Gallery.
