Blithe Spirt at Parish Hall
Dinas Powys Parish Hall
Theatre
11th Apr 2024 - 13th Apr 2024
UNTIL Saturday 13th April
Fresh from their December production of "Merry Wives of Windsor", White Cat Theatre is set to bring Noël Coward's 'improbable farce in three acts' to Dinas Powys this April.
"Blithe Spirit" sees socialite and novelist Charles Condomine, invite an eccentric medium and clairvoyant Madame Arcati to his house to conduct a séance, hoping to gather material for his next book.
The scheme backfires when he is haunted by the ghost of his wilful and temperamental first wife, Elvira, after the séance.
Elvira makes continual attempts to disrupt Charles's marriage to his second wife, Ruth, who cannot see or hear the ghost.
The original 1945 film, staring Dame Margaret Rutherford as the hilarious Madame Arcati, is a childhood favourite of the one of the White Cat members, and was given a modern spin in the 2020 film adaptation with Dame Judi Dench starring in the role.
Taking the directing reins for the company's fourth show in Dinas Powys, Hayden Manuell said: "It is undeniable that Margaret Rutherford's portrayal of Madame Arcati is truly iconic. Noel Coward wrote the role for her and it is a challenge that our fantastic cast are revelling in.
"Coward truly conveys the struggle of Charles Condomine after his first wife, Elvira, magically appears and the tension that builds with his second wife, Ruth. All the while the star of the show is Madame Arcati who leaves the audience in stitches."
Tickets can be bought online at www.WhiteCatTheatre.Cymru, on the night or from The Head Space, Station Road, Dinas Powys.
Doors open at 7pm with the show starting at 7.30pm. A bar will be operating before the show and in the interval selling beers, wine, soft drinks, crisps and sweets.
Cash and card accepted.
White Cat Theatre's previous productions include "Art" by Yasmina Reza, "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde, "Death in Character" by Stuart Ardern and Shakespeare's "Merry Wives of Windsor" adapted by Flora Freeman.
