Hogarth's work was widely distributed in print and served as the 'News of The World' of its day.
Its bawdy scenes and dissolute characters have influenced everything from political cartoons to pub signs.T
Their moral message cannot have been very effective because most of the vices he depicts are with us today!
'Without sacrificing scholarship, Stella Grace Lyons has a most engaging way of hooking an audience into sharing her passionate interest in art history, drawing three dimensional human stories and experiences from the two-dimensional canvas'
- Maev Kennedy, Guardian Arts Correspondent
This talk examines his modern moral series A Harlot's Progress, as well as his famous prints Beer Street and Gin Lane.
Following the talk, please stay for tea and cake, served in the Pavilion's beautiful Gallery.
