Saturday 19 July

THE weekend brings an opportunity to browse the beautiful churches of St Augustine's, Penarth and St Peter's, Old Cogan.
On Saturday, 19 July 19 at St Augustine's between 2 and 4pm there will be short talks on the church and churchyard and guided walks around the church and churchyard.
Topics will include the history of the church, the Roll of Honour in the church, the war graves, and memorials from the time Penarth was a village. Talks and tours will be scheduled at 2.15, 2.45, and 3.30, depending on demand.
Bell ringing displays will be taking place all afternoon.
At St Peter's artwork will be on display between 10am and 4pm in this ancient and historically important church.
On Sunday, 20 July at 3pm international concert organist Tom Bell will be playing a recital on the magnificent Hill organ in St Augustine's church.
Entitled "The Best Experience" it is Victorian organ whimsy inspired by the work of W. T. Best. Find out who he was, and who some of his contemporaries were.
Hear Bach played in the style of Best, orchestral music by Mendelssohn and Meyerbeer arranged for organ. Be charmed by the music of (awkward, eccentric) Samuel Sebastian Wesley and (important but forgotten) Elizabeth Stirling.
And get soaked in David Clegg's A church service interrupted by a thunderstorm! Admission at the door £10.
