FOR the fifth year running Friends of Victoria Square in Penarth have been award the prestigious Green Flag award.

The award recognises and awards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the country and around the world.

Friends of Victoria Square have managed and developed the space with the aim of improving its' ecology and biodiversity since 2020 after receiving grants from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and from the Welsh Government.

The space is managed and maintained by volunteers whose aim is to provide an area for the local community to use for recreational purposes and to enjoy local nature

Apart from maintaining the features established on the Square to date, a significant facility in the form of a public drinking fountain and bottle refilling station was installed during 2025, with the help of funding from; The National Lottery Community Fund, Glamorganshire Voluntary Services and the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

If you would like to become a member or participate in volunteering, no specific skills required as training will be given.

Join via friendsofvictoriasquare.org where you can also learn about regular events. The Friends' main volunteering session is on Saturday mornings from 10am - 12 noon.
