Application for Block of Seven Apartments in Cogan

An application to turn a house in Cogan into a block of seven apartments has been submitted to the Vale council.

The plans involve the conversion and extension of the current property to form seven separate flats.

The current property is the end-terrace house situated on the corner of Pill street and Harriet street.

The extension would be viewed most significantly from Harriet street based on the submitted drawings by the applicant.

The proposal envisions a communal amenity space at the back of the property which would be accessed by a side gate on Harriet street.

Cllr. King, of the Cornerswell Ward, has submitted his view of the application to the planning register.

He stated: ''While I recognise the need for the proposed apartments, and that this vicinity is well connected for public transport and/or active travel, I am alert to the likelihood of it leading to a significant number of additional cars all seeking somewhere to park.

''This area is almost entirely terraced housing with no off-road parking provision and the development will add to that parking congestion.''

The proposal doesn't currently outline any additional parking as part of the building, even though it will be based on a busy road opposite Cogan primary school.

The proposal has been submitted and will be decided on by the planning committee.
