Contract Role: React/Next.js Engineering Lead Location: Cardiff (Remote-first, ideally local for occasional on-site meetings) Rate: Up to £600/day (Inside IR35, includes any travel) Start Date: ASAP (subject to BPSS clearance) Duration: 3 months initially, scope through to March 2026

A leading public sector body is building a new bilingual customer portal and is looking for a React/Next.js Engineering Lead to head up the technical delivery.

You'll set the Front End direction, lead a small team, and stay hands-on with the code. The platform will integrate with internal systems and must meet GOV.UK standards for accessibility, performance, and security.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong React and TypeScript experience

  • Hands-on Next.js (preferred) and/or .NET Core

  • Experience leading teams or acting as a technical lead

  • Solid testing background (Jest, Cypress, XUnit)

  • Familiar with WCAG accessibility and GDS guidelines

  • Skilled in Git, CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices

Nice to Have:

  • SQL/Entity Framework

  • Azure or containerisation (Docker) experience

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics or case management systems
