Data Centre Operator - 10 months Contract - £300/day Inside IR35 - Onsite Cardiff - SCC FLEX CONTRACT
We are seeking a Data Centre Operator to oversee the monitoring and management of the client's critical systems, ensuring operational continuity and efficiency. The ideal candidate will be responsible for system monitoring, incident response, batch processing, and coordination with vendors and internal teams to maintain a high-quality service.
Your responsibilities as a Data Centre Operator:
- Monitor and manage systems, including event-driven alerts and monitoring consoles.
- Coordinate with vendors (eg, BT) for support calls.
- Engage with on-call expert staff (DBA team, Network team) for incident resolution.
- Perform first-line corrective actions for administrative systems, including re-sending failed faxes.
- Run and monitor batch schedules using automated tools (Control/M, Visualcron, etc.).
- Execute weekend release jobs/scripts for production changes.
- Physically manage Xerox bulk printing operations.
- Handle daily tape removal and off-site storage preparation.
- Support engineers during data centre power-down weekends.
- Conduct physical patrols to verify environmental conditions.
- Ensure security and access protocols are followed, maintaining relevant logs.
- Provide operational support for BMC Control-M scheduling, production execution, and output environments.
- Regularly review procedures to ensure relevance and accuracy.
- Generate Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Ad hoc reports.
- Apply schedule changes to batch processing.
- Analyse and resolve production issues and incidents efficiently.
As a suitable Data Centre Operator, you will have:
- A proven background in operations within a data centre or similar environment.
- Ability to work both independently and within small teams.
- A proactive approach, providing solutions and improvements for operations.
- Strong ability to work under pressure in a 24/7 environment.
- Experience in root-cause analysis and problem resolution.
- Experience in batch processing and job scheduling tools (Control-M preferred).
- Knowledge of JCL (Job Control Language) and Korn Shell Scripting.
- Familiarity with Linux and UNIX commands.
- Basic understanding of Oracle database structures.
