Captain Richard Wain VC.

On the evening of Thursday 21 November at 7.00pm at St Augustine's Church Hall, Penarth Civic Society member Dr Jonathan Hicks will talk to us on the life of a remarkable Penarth citizen – Captain Richard Wain V.C.

 Born in Penarth and commemorated in the town, Richard was the son of a local solicitor who lived in Cog Road. He served during the Great War and was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross

 Richard's Victoria Cross was only the second to be won by a soldier serving with the Tank Corps and the only one awarded to the Tank Corps at Cambrai in 1917.

 Jonathan will set his story in the context of Penarth during the early part of the last century and the talk will be fully illustrated.
