Shop Penarth has released a temporary loyalty card for competitors during the upcoming Welsh National Championships.

The tennis tournament will come to Penarth on Sunday (August 21) and finishes on August 28. Tennis Wales has teamed up with Shop Penarth to create the card, where users will get offers for independent businesses including cafés and restaurants.

Bar 44 on Windsor Road will also be offering 10% off for competitors and their family members.

John Davies, a member of the volunteer group which runs Shop Penarth, said: "We are encouraging competitors to support Penarth's local businesses during the tournament.

"There are so many reasons to support local shops and businesses. It keeps jobs in the area, keeps money circulating in the local economy, makes the town more sustainable for the future and helps to make the town a better place to live and work."

Shop Penarth is one of the longest-running local loyalty schemes of its kind in the UK, having launched in September 2010.

The scheme is run by a volunteer group of Penarth business owners and is supported by Penarth Town Council.
