An application has been made to convert the former building of Station Road surgery into accommodation for Westbourne's senior school boarders.
Westbourne School has a number of international students in their senior classes, encouraging pupils from all over the world with their International GCSE (IGCSE) options.
The boarding accommodation that is currently available to students is situated on Plymouth Road next to the Railway Pub and Hotel.
The application plans to convert the existing Station Road Surgery into 12 bedrooms which can hold between 1-4 children.
It would also incorporate a common room, a communal study area, 5 showers, 5 toilets, 9 washbasins and one staff accommodation.
The surgery that had previously occupied the building merged with Stanwell Surgery in 2018 to make up the Penarth Healthcare Partnership.
The building has remained unused since.
Boarders would be in the accommodation during term time and a live-in member of staff would also be present to oversee the safety of students during their time.
You can find more details about boarding with Westbourne on their website and the experience that students have had in the current setting.
Planning during the coronavirus:
Due to the impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic, the Vale of Glamorgan Council's Planning department has adapted the way they work.
Most staff are working from home and contactable by their normal contact details.
For general enquiries please email: [email protected]
OR, phone the duty planning officer: 01446 704681
It may take longer than normal for the council to respond to enquiries during this time.
The council said: ''We will continue to accept new planning applications and requests for pre-application advice, and determine these applications where possible. However, we will not offer face-to-face meetings at this time.
''We would also urge our customers to use email or submit information via our planning portal at this time to manage workload efficiently.
''We will continue to undertake enforcement work, monitoring compliance with planning conditions and taking action against breaches of planning control.
''Like many others, the Council's Planning Committee will not meet for the foreseeable future. However, most applications can be determined with officers delegated powers.''
