The Old Penarthians RFC are donating 20p for every vote they received in yesterday's match against Abercwmboi in the Welsh Premiership Virtual Rugby Cup.

Penarth Nub News reported on the close battle between the home side and St Joseph's RFC in the Virtual Rugby Cup on Tuesday.

They managed to catch up in the last few hours of the competition and make it through to the battle against Abercwmboi.

Unfortunately, the team were just short of a win this time around but they will be donating 20p for every one of over 2000 votes that they received.

The club's chosen charity is the Better Life Appeal, an all-Wales Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre that was established in 2007.

It is a cause that is close to the club's heart with one of their members, Rhys Goodfellow, directly affected by the charities work.

Old Pens RFC tweeted: ''A great effort but it just wasn't to be - congratulations to Abercwmboi RFC on the win and good luck for the rest of the Virtual Welsh Cup.

''Our nominated charity will certainly consider themselves winners.

''Thank you to everyone for the support!''
