One of Penarth's biggest fireworks shows has sold out a week before the event after enthusiastic residents rushed to get hold of scarce tickets.

Penarth Lawn Tennis Club has warned that there will be no tickets available on the gate for Friday's firework spectacular.

"We're delighted that the event has been such a hit with Penarthians for another year," a club spokesperson said.

"We're excited to be welcoming another bumper crowd to the club, and we are looking forward to have an amazing night of fireworks, as well as the bonfire, food and everything else that has been laid on."

The fireworks display and bonfire has become a fixture at the club for many years and – along with other events like the summer music and street food festival – is guaranteed to sell out.

The club urged people attending the event to travel by foot or public transport if possible, and to respect its neighbours when arriving and leaving the club.

Events like the fireworks display raise funds which are essential to maintain a thriving sporting facility in the heart of Penarth for a membership of more than 500.
