Vale of Glamorgan Council has completed the installation of new closed-cCircuit television (CCTV) cameras across the county.

  In 2022 the Council entered a partnership with Cardiff Council and South Wales Police to maximise the effectiveness of CCTV monitoring across the region.

Alongside the new monitoring arrangement, the partnership also funded the upgrade of 78 static cameras across Barry, and Llantwit Major, and the installation of new cameras at Dock View Road, Kings Square, Rhoose Train Station, Penarth Esplanade, and Cowbridge High Street.

 The new network of cameras is monitored 24/7 at Cardiff Council's control room and a new viewing facility in Barry Police Station, giving the Council and South Wales Police the ability to respond to issues more rapidly.

Councillor Sandra Perkes, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Public Sector Housing and Tenant Engagement said: "I'm delighted to see the completion of the Vale's CCTV upgrade and look forward to hearing more success stories on how the new network of cameras are keeping our communities safe.

"The new system will support the partnership in implementing real-time solutions to issues, identifying criminals, and deterring criminal activity, ultimately ensuring the Vale continues to be a safe and pleasant place to live, work and visit."
