Industry & Waste Regulation Officer Closing Date: 21 April 2025 Location: St Mellons, Cardiff Starting salary: £36,246 rising to £39,942 per annum through annual increments being paid each year (pro rata for part time applicants) Contract type: Permanent Work pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week (Part time, annualised hours, compressed hours or term time working considered - discussions at interview stage welcome) Post number: 200996 The role The post holder will contribute to the protection and enhancement of the environment through the effective and efficient regulation of industrial installations and waste sites. You will respond safely, promptly, and efficiently to environmental incidents and reports, and undertake appropriate investigative work. By applying our Regulatory Principles, you will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, take proportionate enforcement action, and achieve tangible, multiple benefits through our regulatory interventions. You will be based within the South Central Waste (SC) Regulation Team in SC Operations, located at St Mellons, Cardiff. The team consists of Waste Regulation Officers, Illegal Waste Enforcement Officers, Fisheries Enforcement, Hazardous Waste Regulation Officers, and specialists in Tackling Waste Crime and carriers, brokers and dealers crimes. While your role will primarily be office-based, you may be required to travel between various NRW locations, partner organisations, and other premises. You will also work outdoors at different sites and may occasionally be exposed to unpleasant conditions. Your responsibilities will focus on regulating permitted waste management facilities across SC Wales, such as Waste Transfer Stations and Metal Recycling Facilities. Additionally, you will be part of a team investigating pollution incidents and tackling illegal waste activities, including large-scale fly-tipping. As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the NRW office at the above location and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment.
