Server Engineer Team / Directorate: Server and Storage / Finance & Corporate Services Starting salary: £36,246 rising to 39,942 per annum through annual increments being paid each year (pro rata for part time applicants) Contract type: Permanent Work pattern: Full time, 37 hours per week (Part time, annualised hours, compressed hours or term time working considered - discussions at interview stage welcome) Interview date: 21/04/2025 Post numbers: 201833, 203755 The role As a Server Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining a secure, efficient, and high-performing compute environment. From proactive monitoring and issue resolution to managing the full lifecycle of compute resource and software, you'll ensure our systems operate seamlessly. Working closely with the Server Team Leader and DDaT colleagues, you'll contribute to infrastructure improvements, support key DDaT projects, and help drive innovation across the organisation. Beyond day-to-day operations, you'll play a key role in service governance, performance monitoring, and incident management, ensuring DDaT services meet agreed standards. You'll also have the opportunity to work on specialist projects, including server migrations, upgrades, and the implementation of new technologies, keeping NRW's infrastructure resilient and future-ready. What you will do
- Ensure the health, performance, and availability of compute and storage, adhering to DDaT governance and standards.
- Resolve incidents and service requests promptly, ensuring compliance with agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
- Follow and contribute to the execution of the Server and Storage Team work plan.
- Collaborate with Senior Engineers to troubleshoot issues and enhance the performance of live systems.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to first and second line support teams.
- Adhere to proactive maintenance schedules, implementing routine service upgrades and improvements.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post

- MCSE/MCSA/Azure certifications or equivalent, demonstrable experience
- Azure Cloud - general IaaS, SaaS, PaaS Windows Server, Azure Virtual Desktop
- Experience of Windows Administration (AD DS, GPO, DNS), Office 365 Administration
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Proven experience of supporting and maintaining infrastructure to SLA
- Knowledge of ITIL Service Management - specifically Incident and Problem Management
