What's happening at Normandy Manor?

Residents spotted (and heard) works taking place at Normandy House this week.

They have voiced concerns that the Bridgeman Road building is being destroyed. It is not.

Contractors this week demolished a section of the house after finding it was structurally unsound and "posed a health and safety threat".

They also constructed a retaining wall to prevent a possible landslide while they renovate the neighbouring Ashdene Manor.

Ashdene is being extended and turned into three large luxury apartments.

The construction company responsible say similar renovation works are imminent for Normandy.

Both properties are owned by Edinburgh Woollen Mill Chief Executive Steve Simpson.

"It will eventually be refurbished like Ashdene. But it won't be knocked down," Dean Williams from the Cardiff-based contractor Cartwright Construction.

"They've had people doing ground surveys. Something will happen there in the future if it gets planning.

"These aren't just developers coming in for profit. We're trying to restore these buildings for their former glory."

"We will keep as much as we can and then try to recreate the rest as best as we can."

A planning application for renovating Normandy Manor has not yet been made.
