Coronavirus Update: Barrage Car Park and Activity Area Closures

8th Apr 2020 | Local News

The Barrage car park has closed along with the skate park, children's play area and outdoor gym in the latest local development during the coronavirus lockdown.

A reader sent us images of signs that have been placed at the top of Dock Hill and on Terra Nova Way (by Tesco's) to inform residents that there is no parking for visitors in the Penarth Marina and Barrage area.

The Cardiff Bay Barrage car park, situated next to the Custom House, has been cordoned off by police and these new signs are set to deter people from visiting the area unnecessarily.

The skate park, children's play area and AdiZone outdoor gym on Cardiff Bay Barrage have also been closed in line with COVID-19 public health guidance.

Lockdown rules state that exercise should take place locally and the advice is that people should not drive to areas to do this.

Residents of the Marina have expressed their concerns at visitors using their local area to exercise.

Some have made signs outside their house stating that social distancing cannot be adhered to in certain areas due to the narrow walkways and paths.

UPDATE: The Vale Council have since said that they have removed signs placed by residents. They said: ''While we have put in place a small number of road and footpaths to stop crowds gathering this is not a measure that we take lightly or upon request.

With a long weekend and hot weather predicted this bank holiday, extra measures have been taken across the country to encourage everyone to Stay In and Save Lives.
