Super Pink Moon Over Penarth: Captured by Residents

8th Apr 2020 | Local News

The Super Pink Moon descended on the world last night and lit up the skies around it. Residents from around Penarth told Nub News about the rare sight.

Despite the name, the moon would not have shown any particular colour. The main difference is seen in brightness and size.

This full moon, the biggest of 2020, coincided with the lunar perigee which is when the moon is closest to Earth in its monthly orbit.

It reached its peak in the UK at around 3:55 am.

The cloudy night sky made capturing the unusual sight quite difficult but a local resident sent these photos in of the moon from Cogan.

Tomos said: ''My camera isn't great but I managed to capture how bright the sky was. The photos were taken at midnight but the whole place was lit up.''

Jason added, ''the moon was really bright and it was still and quiet. It gave me goosebumps, kind of like being underwater.''

Another resident commented: ''It was so beautiful. It looked really light outside. Dark blue in the background, then bright mackerel clouds scattered in front. With the full moon lighting up the sky.''
