Residents from Penarth Marina have detailed their distress caused by the apparent lack of cooperation regarding social distancing and non-essential travel in their neighbourhood.

Chandlers Quay Residents got in touch with Nub News to discuss the issues that they have faced in their area.

An email was sent out to local councillors by the group after concerns were raised due to the number of people visiting the marina area during the lockdown.

They said: ''There have been hundreds of people walking through the Marina area and cycling too.

''You wouldn't even guess we were in the middle of a pandemic.

''These are not local people and have decided to walk/cycle the bay trail which isn't remotely in line with what has been set out by the government and local authorities.

''People are also driving to the area and parking in the car park off Marconi Avenue and along the road, and walking their dogs in the park. That's not an essential car journey.

''There was even a group playing football there today.

''No one is practising social distancing, and the residents here don't feel comfortable to go out for a walk/fresh air until dusk because of the volume of people about.

''I guess the Council closing parks and open spaces in Penarth have 'pushed' more people and dog walkers down here and also people from Cardiff are coming into the area over the bridge.

''The Vale of Glamorgan has closed areas and car parks in Penarth but the car park off Marconi Avenue and Plymouth park have not been.

''In addition, the public footways through the Marina (especially Marconi Avenue, Llwyn Passat, John Batchelor Way and the River Walk area) are really busy with people thinking a pandemic signals the time for them to stroll the bay circumference.

''The Tec Marina offices are closed so it is definitely not staff from there.

''Amongst the dog walkers, there's a guy hitting golf balls on Plymouth park and a kid flying a kite.

''Residents here are social distancing and isolating, yet outside their windows, it's a free for all and its even worse on a sunny day.

''It's time for some immediate action down here before this issue gets worse with good weather on the way and a long bank holiday weekend.

''If the pathways are to be kept open, there need to be some 2m distancing signs put up here.

''It's been confirmed that driving to anywhere to walk your dog or exercise is not an essential journey so that needs to be stopped.''

The latest on the government regulations on the lockdown and leaving the house can be found below:

You should only leave the house for very limited purposes:

• Shopping for basic necessities, for example, food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.

• One form of exercise a day, for example, a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household (stay local and don't travel unnecessarily).

• Any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.

• Travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home.

• These reasons are exceptions - even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.
