A Level Results Day 2020 has been one of celebration and relief at Stanwell following a highly unusual school year.

Ms L Bekker, Head of Year 13, wished all the Year 13 students every success in their future endeavours and said, "It has been a difficult and stressful time for the students and they have dealt with the uncertainty surrounding their examinations admirably.

As a year group, they have been a credit to the school and their families and the excellent grades awarded today reflect their hard work and commitment over many months and years."

At A level, there were a very impressive 91 A* grades (12% of entry,) 36 % of all grades were A* or A, with 87 % of the year group achieving A* to C overall.

Furthermore, 218 students (99%) achieved the Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate as part of the Welsh Baccalaureate. 59 students (27%) achieved the equivalent of 3 A grades or better with 77% gaining 3 A* to C grades.

These figures do not include grade adjustments following the AS grade minimum announcement from Welsh Government made yesterday evening.

The school would like to congratulate all students in the 2020 cohort, including, of course, our highest achievers:

Rory Skinner (5 A* grades)

Eleanor Cole (4 A* grades, 1 A grade)

Rowan Higgins (4 A* grades, 1 A grade)

James Lewis (4 A* grades)

Ffion McCullogh (4 A* grades)

Louis Spencer (4 A* grades)

Two of our top performers, James Lewis & Famke Ashmore, are off to Cambridge University to study modern languages and English Literature respectively, with Dylan Moss & Isobel Brown securing places at Oxford to study German & Hewbrew and law respectively.

Alice Short from the 2019 cohort has also been accepted to read modern languages at Cambridge.

Mr M Lewis, Assistant Headteacher said, "It is great to see another year of superb A level results for our students, we are very proud of their work ethic and resilience and we have every confidence that they will succeed and thrive in the next stages of their lives, whether in higher education or in the world of work."
