Stol Coffee picks up new bike after raising £10k from Penarth crowdfunding page
Stol Coffee in Penarth has finally picked up a new bike after starting a GoFundMe page over 18 months ago to raise the money.
The page raised a total of £10,330 and a bike was initially purchased within the first few weeks after raising approximately £7,500. However, the frame snapped soon after riding.
Piotr Skoczylas, 30, owner of Stol Coffee, told Penarth Nub News: "I found a company that said they could source a new one for me.
"I paid a deposit and had to wait six months because of Covid and a shortage in the supply chain. But once the bike arrived, it wasn't fit for purpose.
"The wheel had completely buckled after a few hours of driving. I asked for the money back and they said no."
After getting in touch with BBC Wales, the X-Ray programme made an intervention. The company then apologised and Mr Skoczylas received a full refund. "I finally got the money back after a few months of battling," he said.
Mr Skoczylas immediately went to a different company called London Green Cycles for a new bike to be made.
People who have supported the project have also had their names printed on the new bike.
Stol Coffee will be celebrating its second birthday on July 3 with a community gathering at Alexandra Park in Penarth, starting at 10:00 and everyone is welcome to attend.
Penarth residents can also join Mr Skoczylas every Sunday for Together is Better, a mini-festival at Alexandra Park between 10:00 – 12:00 for the community to come together and make connections.
