Pupils from Ysgol Pen Y Garth in Penarth took home some top prizes from competitions held at this year's Urdd Eisteddfod.

The Welsh Language festival returned after two years online due to the pandemic and was held in Denbighshire between May 30 and June 4.

More than 15,000 children and young people under the age of 25 were in attendance to celebrate Welsh talent as well as compete in competitions for activities including singing, cooking, journalism and hairdressing.

Pupil Madog Llewelyn Peak was awarded first place in the harp solo, while his classmate, Mabli Russell, came second in the Disco, Hip-Hop and Street Dance category.

The school also triumphed in the creative dance event, taking second place for Year Six and below.

Cllr Rhiannon Birch, the cabinet member for Education, Arts and the Welsh Language, said: "I'm thrilled to see the Vale's talented pupils recognised in this year's Urdd Eisteddfod.

"The festival provides a fantastic opportunity for young people to develop their artistic talents while creating great memories during a fun-filled day.

"Well done and congratulations to all the participating schools – you should be very proud."

Pupils from Ysgol Sant Baruc and Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg in Barry as well as Ysgol Dewi Sant in Llantwit Major also participated in this year's event.
