Candidates for the Sully and Lavernock community council have now released their pledges.

The election will take place on 11 March between 7am and 10pm.

There are three positions going: Two for Sully and one for Lavernock.

The three positions were vacated by Christopher Morgan, Phil Baguley, and Kay Bowring, who is now re-running - all of whom cited bullying among their reasons for resigning.

Phil Baguely resigned in September after three years of service.

So, let's meet some of the candidates.

Andrew Smith

Andrew Smith, 61, has lived in Sully for 34 years, and has spent his life working in the family business, Monty Smith, in Penarth.

"I like many am fed up of hearing people moaning about Sully and Lavernock Council so have decided to do something about it," he wrote in his pledge.

Kay Francis Bowring

Kay Francis Bowring is a retired secondary school teacher and has lived in Sully for 38 years. She is re-running as a candidate after resigning due to bullying last year.

She has been the Chair of Sully PTA, leader of the Jubilee Playgroup, a founding member of Sully Friends of Ty Hafan and is now SLCC's representative Governor for Sully and Evenlode schools.

"If elected, I will endeavour to ensure transparency in Council decisions and procedures. I hope that, as a team, it will be possible to promote a sense of community spirit and pride in the beautiful place we are privileged to call our home," she wrote in her pledge.

Robin Smith

Robin Smith, 46, grew up in Dinas Powys and has lived in Penarth since 2005. He spent much of his younger years in Sully.

"It's quite obvious to me and probably many others that SLCC needs and influx of new blood, with new ideas and the drive to push things forward – with three seats available on SLCC I feel this is the perfect time to do that," he wrote.

"Lavernock residents need to be heard and I promise to do exactly that – make sure Lavernock has a voice on Sully & Lavernock Community Council to actually get things done," he continued.

Robin Lynn

Robin Lynn is a retired Civil Servant who has lived in Sully since 1985. He says his primary aim in standing is to ensure that Lavernock gets the voice it needs, now and in the future.

"Lavernock needs a strong voice, particularly at a time when the community is living under the threat of housing development that will totally alter its character and ambience," he wrote in his pledge.

"Lavernock contributes to the Community Council's precept and voters in Lavernock need to feel they are getting something back."

Robert (Bob) Lang

Robert Lang moved to Sully in 1981 and has raised his family there. He is a founding member of Sully Sailing Club and has recently retired after 44 years as a Chartered Electrical Engineer.

"I have no political allegiance and would bring fresh experience and knowledge to the Council," he wrote in his pledge.

"I have been a member of this community for 40 years and therefore feel that I am well placed to comment and address matters arising in the village."

Graham Newton

Graham Newton is also running as a candidate but is yet to release a statement.
