THE Esplanade "resurfacing works" have finished. The new parking regime has just begun.

Please flick through our gallery to see the new-look seaside parking system for yourself.

The new restrictions formally arrived towards the end of last month, but they only come into full effect now the paint lines are down.

Parking on Cliff Hill, Cliff Road, Beach Road, the "unnamed road leading towards Seabank", Bridgeman Road and the Esplanade has changed considerably.

After a recently-concluded consultation period, the following proposals were finalised and will be enforced from now on.

The majority of changes involve relaxing rules on parts of the road that are currently subject to waiting or stopping restrictions, with the introduction of two hour limited waiting parking bays between 10am and 7pm (no return within two hours) on roads which are currently unrestricted.

Following the consultation, the council also agreed to increase the number of parking spaces at Penarth Esplanade and adjacent streets.

Caravans and large goods vehicles will no longer be able to park overnight on Cliff Hill and Cliff Road.

Councillor Benjamin Grey said the new parking scheme "goes to the heart of what people want to see the use of this area for this parking as."

"For me it has to be about allowing people to be able to access to the seafront and its businesses.

"For too long, certain areas have been allowed to slip and the ability for us to enforce rules has diminished," he said.

Vale of Glamorgan Council leader Neil Moore said: "This is a very good way forward and I'm very glad it's been brought here today."
