Volunteer crew members from RNLI Penarth took part in a training exercise with HM Coastguard Penarth Rescue Team, Welsh Ambulance Service and Medserve Wales to learn how all agencies can work together in an emergency.

The exercise, which was held yesterday (May 5) by Penarth Pier and in RNLI Penarth Lifeboat Station, saw Penarth's volunteer crew join professionals and volunteers from other agencies to simulate working together in a medical emergency.

The training involved a scenario where the RNLI crew and Penarth Coastguard were called to an injured person, who was brought back to the station where the ambulance and Medserve crews gave them medical attention.

The purpose of the exercise was for volunteers and professionals in each agency to get familiar with different procedures that are carried out by other agencies, and to help with working together in the event of a real medical emergency.

Medserve volunteers explained the medical procedures they were carrying out and their purpose, with the chance for discussion and questions afterwards.

Jason Dunlop, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Penarth Lifeboat Station, said: "This was a great exercise which we all learnt a great deal from. In emergency situations, it's crucial for different agencies to work together, and this training helped foster a better understanding of the procedures used by different agencies.

"Thanks to all the agencies who took part, with special thanks to Medserve Wales for the clinical lead support."
