Penarth Town Council has been announced as a finalist for this year's Cardiff Life Awards in the civic category.

The Cardiff Life Awards are a highlight in the city's events calendar and are described as the most tightly contested awards in the capital, with the greatest number of local companies and institutions involved.

The event celebrates businesses and charities in and around the Cardiff area.

The Civic Award highlights the contribution of an organisation which has gone above and beyond to improve their area, winners are chosen by a panel of independent judges.

Penarth Town Council is the only statutory body in the final across all categories.

On their website the council said: ''2019 was a highly significant year for PTC as we put into action a lot of new initiatives and made huge leaps forward regarding environmental action, cultural programming and well-being.

''This nomination goes a long way to acknowledge some of the small but important jobs we are doing in the local community, as well as giving us the boost to continue pursuing more ambitious projects which will improve the quality of life for those in Penarth.''

Winners will be announced at a glittering award ceremony on the 4th of February.

For more information about the Awards and this year's finalists see the Cardiff Life Awards website.
