"We haven't sunk yet" – How Penarth's publicans are staying afloat
When First Minister Mark Drakeford announced the Welsh Government's ban on the sale of alcohol in hospitality venues on 30 November, pub owners in Penarth could hardly believe their misfortune.
Natasha Rees (who runs St Fagan's with her husband Gareth) says time is running out.
The family had only taken over the pub in October after being forced to vacate The Station in Cogan during the first lockdown.
Father and son perform head rolling tradition for a socially distanced old Welsh new year
Local artist Richard Parry and his son Jamie (8) have rolled a papier maché giant's head down Beach Lane to celebrate the old Welsh New Year - Hen Galan.
The tradition recounts the story of the giant Bendigeidfran from the old Mabinogion tales, an early Welsh collection of medieval legends.
Flood victims gratefully receive almost £10,000 from community group
A community effort led by the Sully Village Group (SVG) to raise money for those affected by the December floods has raised £9,961 at the time of writing.
The sum combines £8,711 raised by residents via Just Giving, £250 from Dinas Rotary Club and £1,000 from the SVG itself (raised by calendar sales).
Fairfield leads the way in school tree-planting scheme
Fairfield Primary in Cogan has become one of the first schools in Wales to plant a fruit tree orchard as part of the Fruitful Orchards Project.
Led by Natural Resources Wales (NRW), the scheme provides an opportunity to improve children's connection with nature while also increasing biodiversity in urban areas.
Care home vaccine rollout underway in Penarth
The roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine in care homes in the Vale of Glamorgan has begun.
Towerhill Care Home in Penarth became the first care home in the Vale to have all residents and staff vaccinated last week. Towerhill is home to 14 residents.
Bar 44 raises £500 for Cancer Research selling dad's pickled onions
Natalie Isaac, 44 Group director, said the support from Cowbridge customers buying their father Roger's pickled onions had been amazing.
"There was a massive waiting list, but they just couldn't peel the onions fast enough."
