Penarth Nub News received a query this week after detailed measurements were captured being taken at Penarth's Esplanade.

A Nub Reader said: "Over the last few weeks, detailed measurements have been taken by operatives on the Esplanade in Penarth though the reason for them is not known.

''One suggestion is that there will be road improvements and parking meters installed, the latter being very controversial in some quarters.

''The Esplanade itself is long overdue for some TLC, hopefully in keeping with the Victorian nature of the area.

''As the gentleman with the theodolite was seen measuring the spaces between the railings and the steps leading onto the beach, maybe this is a possibility and how wonderful that would be.

''Penarth has a Pier and Esplanade which is unique in the Vale of Glamorgan and in general. It would be good to see this recognised and cherished as a valuable local resource for residents and visitors."

Nub News contacted the Vale of Glamorgan Council to find out what work was being conducted.

A spokesperson from the Vale Council said: ''The work is being carried out as part of plans to improve the appearance of the Esplanade and to provide additional parking.

''There are currently no plans to charge for parking in this area."
