Local Resident and Co-Owner of Frank + Otis Brewery, Steve Mcdonald, has launched an IPA which pays tributes to NHS staff with a percentage of sales going to two charities affected by the loss of income suffered at the hands of the coronavirus, Ty Hafan and St David hospice in Newport.

Frank + Otis is a local brewery which was launched in 2019 and is run by Penarth resident Steve Mcdonald and his friend Rob.

Although they are based in Cardiff, Penarth is at the heart of the company and they have been delivering to the area throughout the lockdown period.

The IPA they have launched is called As One.

It is a beer ''designed for the lockdown period, a light fruity 3.7% IPA, easy to drink on those long days at home.

''Massive thanks to Dom Tsoi for the artwork which was drawn to pay tribute to the everyday heroes who are carrying us through this time.

''30p from the sale of every bottle will go to support local charities whose income has been negatively affected by the COVID-19 virus. That's £3.60 per case.''

You can preorder it here. It is Free Delivery for Penarth and many other areas.

Dom Tsoi is a local artist from Dinas Powys and has worked with Frank + Otis on bottle designs throughout. You can find out more about his work here.

He said on his social media: ''The artwork was to reflect the current pandemic and quarantine situation we are all facing and bring positivity and light. Also to pay respect to all key workers who are pulling us through. I came up with the idea of 'Murmuration'. Which means thousands of starling birds flying in an intricately coordinated pattern through the sky.

''I thought this would be a great way to represent freedom within, not being alone and supporting each other in these crazy times. Another idea is having key workers flying like superheroes as part of the murmuration i.e nurses, doctors, postal workers, food workers etc.''

Steve and Rob have previously run their own separate businesses and got to know each other when working out of the same shared office.

Over the years working together they discovered they had a number of things in common; a recognition of the importance of family and friends, a positive outlook on life, and a love of beer. It's out of these principles that the idea for Frank + Otis was born.

Steve explains the inspiration behind the launch of the company. He said: ''On the 7th October 2018, my brother died. Ben collapsed at the finish line of the Cardiff Half Marathon and passed away instantly when he went into cardiac arrest. He was 25 years old, fit and healthy.

''Rob and I had worked together for a number of years, and my friendship with him was one that I came to appreciate much more fully in the time following the half marathon. His support is something that I will always be grateful for.

''In our time working together, we would often talk about joint business ventures that would be fun to do, a brewing company among them. When I returned to work Rob said, "Let's stop talking about it, let's go for it, life's too short, let's have some fun!" And so Frank+Otis was born.

''As this venture is inspired by Ben, we want it to be a tribute to him and to reflect his values. Ben was great at pulling people together, organising social events, always hosting BBQs or pizza nights at our family home. He was happiest when surrounded by friends or family and with a good beer in his hand.

''This is what Frank+Otis is about, bringing people together over a beer, sharing good times, developing relationships, having fun and making memories.''
