Penarth Coastguard's Early Morning Callout to Aid Vulnerable Man

Penarth Coastguard was tasked to a multi-agency incident near the River Usk at 4:21 am this morning when police reported a man's life was in safety nearby.

The Coastguard team said: ''Tasked at 04:21 as part of a multi-agency response. The casualty was safe and well in the care of the Welsh Ambulance.

''Stood down at 8:00 am and returned to station at 9:00 am.''

Gwent Police confirmed: ''At approx 3.45 am this morning, we received a report regarding concerns for the safety of a man on George Street Bridge in Newport.

''Oncoming police car emergency services attended and after speaking to officers, the man was brought to safety.''
