Penarth Born Lincoln Barrett AKA High Contrast, has been nominated for the Grammy Awards 2020.

He is a Penarth based electronic music producer DJ and record producer most famously known for his contribution to the Drum and Bass industry.

This is the first time High Contrast has been nominated for a Grammy.

His nomination is for the 'Best Remixed Recording' with his track The One (High Contrast Remix) remixer (Jorja Smith).

Barrett grew up in Penarth, where he still lives.

He is the son of the late Paul Barrett, once Wales' leading rock'n'roll promoter/agent and the man who discovered Shakin' Stevens.

Paul Barrett sadly passed away earlier this year.

His mother, Lorraine Barrett, is an ex assembly member for Cardiff South and Penarth.

On his website bio he discusses his drive towards Drum & Bass.

He said: ''I never wanted to be pigeon-holed. Meaning can only be defined through contrast; you cannot describe something without invoking its opposite – explain day and you invoke night.

''When I started making drum & bass there was also a contrarian impulse. Drum & bass was very dark, masculine and techy-sounding in the late '90s.

''I really wanted to flip that, to sample disco and be more feminine. People laughed at me but it was ahead of the curve, and more people started doing that. Now it's time to find another way of changing it…"

The Grammys 2020 takes place on January 26 in The Staples Center, LA.
