The work of a Penarth-based artist is the centrepiece of an immersive film event telling the story of Flat Holm Island.

The island sits just a couple of miles from Lavenock Point in the Bristol Channel and artist Gina Biggs spent a year there to create her film which will be part of an installation organised by SheWolf, a disabled-led performance company based in Penarth, at the Llais Festival 2022 later this month.

Llais is Cardiff's annual international music and arts festival taking place from 26 to 30 October at the Wales Millennium Centre.

The installation is entirely filmed on the island and lasts for 20 minutes and is free is free for people to visit.

It is described as 'a wonderful way to visit Flat Holm without getting on the boat and going there'.

Lydia Bassett is a producer and support worker with SheWolf and she says: "There is no need to book and Gina's film will run on the hour and half hour between 12 noon and 9pm each day.

"The installation is a site-responsive work that deeply inhabits and enlivens the hidden stories of landscape to re-awaken them in the imagination of the public."

You can view a trailer for the film via the link below.

Flat Holm's shorelines are studded with secret caves, and its landscape hides stories of survival against all odds. It is a microcosm of Wales' history. The buildings, remnants of military defences and a former cholera isolation hospital, echo stories of loss, isolation and grief; a nation defending itself against invasion.

Now operating as a tourist attraction, bird sanctuary and Site of Special Scientific Interest it defends itself against the threat of climate change.

Gina's film shows her living 'off-grid' and enduring the turn of the seasons across one year.

In an invitation to view the film, Gina says: "Join us as we follow the story of one woman whose experience of chronic pain ignites a love affair with the island. Isolated and yearning to be heard this is an intimate duet that gives voice to the invisible pain of body and earth."
