Murchfield play area in Dinas Powys has undergone major refurbishment work following a £120,000 investment by Vale of Glamorgan Council.

The money for community projects, secured through Section 106 contributions from local housing developments, has been spent on a range of new equipment.

The Vale Council conducted a community consultation event where residents were asked what they would like to see in the play area. It now includes a toddler swing, hump bridge, treehouse, slide, climbing apparatus and chill out area.

Much of the equipment is inclusive, allowing both able-bodied and disabled children to play together, while the design is intended to ensure the play area stimulates children mentally as well as physically.

After input from Murchfield Community Association, it was designed by contractors Dragon Play & Sports and landscaped by WM Garden Services.

Cllr Kathryn McCaffer, Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Culture, said: "We asked local residents what they wanted from their play area and I hope the community is happy with the end result.

"Murchfield now has a modern play area complete with a host of new equipment, much of it inclusive, which should appeal to a range of different age groups.

"This is the latest play area to undergo refurbishment as part of a widespread program of similar improvement work across the Vale."
