Morel Court, a residential care home in Penarth, have updated local residents on their positive situation amid the coronavirus pandemic.

They said: ''A quick update on our current situation.

''We can happily say we have no suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the home at this time.

''All our staff are following all PPE and infection control procedures and guidelines to prevent anything from entering our home.

''We will keep everyone updated as much as possible and appreciate your understanding during this difficult time.

''Residents are conducting Skype and Facetime calls with our Community Co-Ordinator June so please give us a call and arrange a time with Richard if you would like to do a video call so we can schedule it in.

''Stay safe.''

This statement comes after the BBC had reported Older people being 'airbrushed' out of virus figures.

Currently, residents of the care home are unable to have visitors in order to protect everyone from the risks of coronavirus.

MHA, who oversee the activities of all of their care homes, have reached out to local communities for the provision of PPE.

Andy White, director of property at MHA said: ''We are asking schools, colleges and factories within our communities to consider donating any supplies that are not currently needed.

"We are fortunate to be part of a bigger group of care homes which means resources can be re-allocated, but overall supplies have not been replenished as quickly as we would like. Any surplus PPE that schools, colleges or factories could donate would be gratefully welcomed.

"Our priority is to keep our residents and staff as safe as possible.

''Care staff are working on the front line of dealing with the coronavirus outbreak, supporting some of the most vulnerable people in the UK.

''It's essential that they have the equipment they need to keep themselves safe, as well as the people they are caring for."

Any organisations that may be able to donate are invited to contact MHA at [email protected] or their local home. They can also tweet @yourMHA with their offer.

MHA also oversee Ty Gwyn care home where the first case of coronavirus in Penarth was confirmed.
