Hamptons in Penarth has appealed to residents of Penarth for donations of unwanted towels/bedding and dog beds for an animal rescue centre as well as pillowcases and covers for Scrub a Dub Dub team.

The idea came to the duo after they heard about lots of lockdown clearouts happening across the town. With the tip closed, it has been difficult for people to know what to do with these items.

They said: ''If you've been having a 'lockdown' clear-out – and now you're wondering what to do with your unwanted towels/bedding/dog beds etc. we have the answer!

''If you let us know, you can drop them off outside our store in Ludlow Lane and we'll pick them up and take them to Many Tears Animal Rescue.

''Blankets and towels are desperately needed at Many Tears for bathing the dogs when they first arrive and for bedding. Your unwanted dog beds and pillows (not feather please) will also be gratefully received.

''If you have unwanted duvet covers and pillowcases etc we will also take these for Scrub a Dub Dub Penarth who are a great group of local volunteers sewing much-needed scrubs, headbands, scrub bags and scrub hats for NHS staff.

''Please make sure to message us to let us know when you'll be dropping off your items and then we'll know when to pop over to Hamptons to collect them – thank you.

''Many Tears is close to our hearts, our rescue dogs Roxy, Millie, Georgie, Daisy, and Max have all come from Many Tears who specialise in finding new homes for dogs that have been used for breeding and then discarded when they are no longer of any use.

''When our store is open, all of the 5ps that we collect from our carrier bags are donated to Many Tears. Since the bag charge was introduced we've raised well in excess of £10,000 for Many Tears - thanks to you!

''Also, a huge thank you in advance for all your kind donations of blankets, towels etc. it really does make a difference.''
