Get Lost in Austen With Griffin Books Online Event

Griffin Books' programme of online Meet the Author events continues next week with debut novelist Janice Hadlow. Bookshop owner, Mel Griffin, will be speaking to Janice via video call on Wednesday 20 May about her debut novel, The Other Bennet Sister.

Simultaneously a wonderfully warm homage to Jane Austen and a delightful new story in its own right, The Other Bennet Sister is, at its heart, a life-affirming tale of a young woman finding her place in the world. Witty and uplifting, it will make you feel – and cheer – for Mary as you never have before.

So far, the Penarth bookshop has held online meet the author-style events with Katherine Stansfield, Owen Sheers, Matthew Hall, Jeffrey Archer and Kiran Millwood Hargrave, with Janice Hadlow and bestselling author Clare Mackintosh still to come in May.

They were joined by a truly international 'audience' for their recent online event with Jeffrey Archer. Fans from across the globe - from Sri Lanka, Bulgaria, New Zealand, Germany, America, India and Penarth (of course) - tuned in for a thoroughly entertaining hour in the company of the bestselling author and politician.

Lee Mathers from Leeds said: "I just wanted to say a big thank you for the most amazing evening. At least one good thing has come from the lockdown, I got to meet my favourite author!"; while Linda Coles added: "Thank you for organising such a great chat with Jeffrey Archer. I felt privileged to have been in the small group and get my question answered. Thanks again from New Zealand!".

The online event format has allowed Griffin Books to keep in touch with its regular customers while also making new friends from further afield. Events are facilitated by video conferencing platform Zoom, and ticket numbers are strictly limited to ensure that attendees get the best live experience. Tickets cost £5 per household and include a discount on book purchases.

For more information on forthcoming events, and to book tickets, visit: www.ticketsource.co.uk/griffinbooks or call the shop on 029 2070 6455.
