Just one month after being named the Best Independent Bookshop in Wales, Griffin Books has been nationally recognised yet again.

In their Reader's Travel Tips section, The Guardian listed the Windsor Arcade shop among its '12 of the UK's best independent bookshops, chosen by readers'.

Local resident Sally (no surname provided) submitted Griffin Books, writing:

"Griffin Books is at the heart of our lovely seaside town. It is an active and imaginative creative hub with many spokes: you are welcome to browse, buy online, be part of active book clubs and online meet-the-author sessions.

"Owned by Mel, supported by a friendly knowledgeable and creative team, it is a Tardis, full of an eclectic and wide ranging mix of books – entertaining and challenging older and younger readers alike to broaden their reading journeys."

The shop was listed alongside independents from West Yorkshire, Norwich, London, and Derbyshire.

Mel Griffin, owner, told Nub News:

"All of us here at Griffin Books were thrilled to find ourselves on the Guardian's list of the UK's 12 best indie bookshops. We didn't even know about it until the feature was drawn to our attention, so it was a wonderful surprise!

"Knowing that a local customer nominated us makes it particularly special, as the whole team has worked so hard throughout this past challenging year, but we couldn't do any of what we do without our lovely and loyal customers," she continued.

"A big thank you to everyone for continuing to support not only us, but all the other great independent businesses our town is blessed with. Shop local!"

Mel is also looking forward to the UK-wide finals of the Independent Bookshop of the Year, to be held on 13 May over Zoom.

The winner will also be put forward for the overall Book Retailer of the Year shortlist to compete against high street chains, supermarkets and online booksellers.
