Giving Penarth a lift - How Snowdrop Independent Living supports the town through lockdown and beyond

For over 20 years, Snowdrop Independent Living have been keeping Penarth moving with their unique range of mobility and home comfort products.

As part of their continued commitment to the community, the Windsor Road branch have now become proud sponsors of Nub News.

This new partnership will help enable Nub News to report the latest news from our town, putting Penarth in your pocket and bringing you closer to the town you love.

Since starting as a single showroom in Haverfordwest in 1999, Snowdrop expanded into South Wales, and then most recently the Midlands in 2020.

They provide and service stairlifts, mobility scooters, riser recliner chairs and much more, playing a central role in the lives of countless Penarthians.

From charity runs and Easter egg collections to serving Paralympians and shopping for shielding customers, Snowdrop Penarth has shown that it is more than just a showroom.

"We genuinely care about the community," branch manager Lynne Jakeway tells Nub News.

"Customer welfare and satisfaction is our prime concern. We go above and beyond to make our customers' experiences with us as good as they can be.

"Especially during this current climate, we have a responsibility to help our customers in any way possible."

Throughout the pandemic, Snowdrop's commitment to the community was put to the test. The team passed with flying colours.

"At the beginning of the first lockdown, our Penarth showroom had to close," says Sophia Wu, marketing manager.

"We received lots of phone calls from concerned customers because our products are absolutely necessary to their wellbeing."

As a result, after just two days of closure, Snowdrop made the brave decision to continue operating. With many residents housebound and all but "essential services" allowed to operate, the role of Snowdrop became more important than ever before.

"As a retailer with a local engineering team, we also service and repair mobility equipment, so if a customer cannot get a scooter repaired in order to go shopping on their own, the stress and anxiety can become overwhelming very quickly.

"This is why our showrooms were open throughout the pandemic, enabling us to provide essential items to our customers."

Increased pressure on the NHS intensified demand for mobility equipment, making the pandemic a busy period for Snowdrop.

"During the second lockdown, we received a lot of urgent product enquiries, especially for beds and recliner chairs.

"Luckily, we work with a big network of suppliers so we were able to source equipment quickly to help families prepare their homes following a loved one being discharged from hospital."

The town was clearly grateful for Snowdrop's dedication and resolve.

Lynne has received gifts - including flowers and a homemade mask - thanking her and the team for their commitment to the town.

"Especially during the first lockdown, people didn't know what to do when they were told they had to stay at home," she says.

"How do you get your shopping done? How do you get your essential mobility equipment? So we did lots of doorstep deliveries and did our best to accommodate our customers and make them feel safe and happy.

"From day one, we have always been about customer service and making their lives better."

Lynne, who is also Treasurer of Barry Rotary Club, has throughout the pandemic set up food bank collection boxes and gone shopping for shielding residents.

"If I require their help, they are only a phone call away and the customer service is first class," wrote one customer in a five star review.

Snowdrop is truly Penarth's foremost supplier of all things mobility.

They provide pavement scooters (such as the Leo and Maxi range) chosen specifically for their capacity to handle Penarth's hills. Customers can safely test drive in Snowdrop's large car park.

Their most popular riser recliner chairs, from The Brecon Bespoke range, can be adjusted to suit an individual's height to achieve maximum comfort during prolonged usage.

They specialise in the installation of stair lifts for narrow stairs and outdoor lifts.

"Our customers trust our advice and recommendations," says Sophia. "We are experts at turning barriers into solutions."

"We are immensely proud and excited to have Snowdrop join as our latest sponsor," says Nub News CEO Karl Hancock.

"They provide an invaluable service to the community and we look forward to forming a long and fruitful partnership with them.

"It is fantastic that businesses like Snowdrop are choosing to support local news. Without their sponsorship, Nub News would be unable to continue telling the stories that matter to local people."

The Snowdrop Independent Living Penarth showroom is open 10-3, Monday-Friday.

Penarth Nub News articles were viewed 119,050 times in the past month.
