A body has been found on Penarth Beach this morning.

A statement from South Wales Police said: "Emergency services are at a scene near the foot of cliffs along Penarth seafront following the discovery of a body.

"Police were called to the scene shortly before 10:50 today."

A witness saw a helicopter land on the beach to take off again and land on the Cliff Top walk.

The helicopter has now landed on the beach again.

Police and ambulance service are also at the scene toward Lavernock Bay.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called shortly before 11.00 today to an incident in Penarth, and sent three rapid response cars and an emergency ambulance to the scene, where crews were supported by Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service Cymru colleagues and a search and rescue helicopter."

The witness also claims that the RNLI has been called in to assist.
