Golden Lion FC in Penarth will host a charity match at Sully Sports & Social Club on Sunday, May 1 in aid of the Ukraine crisis.

Sully Sports & Social Club have given Golden Lion FC its pitch for free and all players will play the match in blue and yellow in solidarity with Ukraine.

The match will kick off at 14:30 and everyone is welcome to attend. Donations can be made at collection points during the afternoon and all proceeds will be given to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

John Davies, 38, the club's secretary, told Penarth Nub News: "We started to do a charity match every year and the last one we did was in 2019 for Help for Heroes, but Covid happened so we haven't done it for two years.

"We thought about doing a match for Ukraine because of everything that's happening and what we've seen on the news. It's a bad situation for the civilians out there and we wanted to try and do what we could really."

Players usually pay a £5 sub fee to cover the costs of putting on a match, but this money will also be donated to the appeal.

Drinks will also be served after the game at The Golden Lion pub on Glebe Street for anyone interested.

You can also donate to Golden Lion FC's JustGiving page.
