Vale of Glamorgan Council has secured funding from the Welsh Government for various transport initiatives, totalling £3,759,954.

The funding is dedicated to enhancing travel infrastructure and road safety, encompassing safer community routes and improved active travel.

The Active Travel funding is allocated exclusively for designated transport projects, secured through a competitive bidding process open to local authorities.

This investment will enable crucial improvements to the region's infrastructure, particularly enhancing safety around schools. Projects include pedestrian enhancements near Sully Primary School and the improvement of footways connecting schools, shops, and transportation hubs.

Additionally, funding will support the implementation of timed school street closures and the development of active travel routes, promoting safer and more sustainable transportation options.

Cllr Mark Wilson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services, emphasised the significance of these improvements for school safety, stating: "Providing improved transport routes to and from schools is paramount for the safety of pupils and parents who use these regularly.

"This investment underscores our commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure in the Vale, ensuring that our community members have safe and accessible routes to educational institutions."

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Sustainable Places, Bronwen Brookes, added: "The enhancements to our active travel routes not only align with our Project Zero initiative but also signify a significant step forward in promoting environmentally friendly transportation methods.

"By prioritising sustainable travel options, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also ensuring a healthier and more vibrant community for generations to come

"This funding injection underscores our unwavering commitment to sustainability and our dedication to creating a greener, more sustainable future for the Vale."
