James Sommerin, the Michelin star restaurant on Penarth's Esplanade, has joined in with many other local businesses in their efforts to reassure customers and adapt amidst the coronavirus crisis.

They said: ''To all our guests, friends and suppliers.

''We are aware of the growing concerns nationwide with the Coronavirus outbreak, and the impact it is having on the UK.

''We want to reassure everyone that we are doing all we can as a business to ensure our high standards of cleanliness are continued and all current government guidelines are met.

''Our staff, guests and suppliers are our number one priority and we have made all our staff fully aware of the guidelines and information regarding self-isolation and what precautions should be taken.

''We are doing everything we can do to make sure the restaurant is kept a safe place to visit.

''We, as everyone else globally, are monitoring the situation and are very nervous about the months to come.

''As a small family business with no financial backing, we are very worried about the impact the current situation could have on the restaurant, not only from restaurant and room cancellations but the possibility of enforced closures as already witnessed globally.

''We are trying to look at all avenues to make sure all our staff, as well as our business, are looked after and protected, they all work so hard to make Restaurant James Sommerin what it is and they are as worried as we are.

''We are very grateful for all your support it certainly means a lot to us and our team.

''During these hard times we are asking for your continued support and as we ask you all to look after yourselves and stay safe we also ask that if you are well you continue to support businesses locally who do not have the support of larger corporations.

''You are not only supporting our family you are supporting our extended family - our team.

''Restaurant James Sommerin will continue to stay open unless we are told otherwise by the Government.''

For those that are unable to attend their site for health reasons, the restaurant is working on a gourmet takeaway menu for locals to enjoy from their homes.
