The Coronavirus Care Network in Penarth is giving away five cakes for residents with upcoming birthdays (28th April - 5th May) and you can nominate someone to receive one.

They are going to be made by local eateries and hope to inspire a bit positivity during these darker times and help residents celebrate their big days during the lockdown.

The idea was announced on their Facebook page today.

They said: ''Do you know someone living in Penarth, Sully, Llandough or Dinas Powys with a Birthday between 28th April and 5th May?

''It might be their lucky day.

''Nominations can be made by Text Message to 07792 071810 (only text please as this number is being used to help vulnerable people) or by Direct Message on Facebook.

''Please add the name and reason for nomination. Maybe it's someone's 80th Birthday? Maybe you know a child who has a Birthday coming up and their parents are critical workers?

''This is a Birthday Bake Off (However, there is no competition, just five generous businesses).

''We will choose five people who will receive a cake from one of our five Bakers: James at Restaurant James Sommerin, Matt at Dirty Vegan, Quentin at Glendale Hotel, Charlotte at Willmore's 1938 and Alison at The Crêpe Escape.

''They will bake a cake and then personally deliver it. We will also share the Recipe on Facebook so you can have a go at home.''

The deadline for nominations is 5 pm this Friday, 24th April.
