Consultation to take place over heritage info placement

By Nub News Reporter 28th Aug 2022

A public consultation will take place in Penarth later this year as the town's Civic Society wants to know the views of local residents about where new information boards about the region's heritage will be placed.

The Society's Heritage Campaign was launched at the end of last year and a group has been meeting regularly to develop the scheme.

At the moment it looks like there be around 22 information boards dotted around the town along with 20 or so blue plaques commemorating residents from the past and more than 120 QR code panels linking to the society's website to offer more information on the areas of the town, buildings in it and people who lived in them.

Society trustee David Noble says: "We have received the backing and support of Vale of Glamorgan Council and are presently working with them to identify locations for the boards which will not be inconvenient for pedestrians or motorists.

"Most boards will be in green spaces but there will be some that will need to be on pavements.

"The next stage is to go out for public consultation on the concept and all members of the community will have their opportunity to express their feelings and aspirations for the project, we anticipate doing this in the Autumn and will keep residents and members informed of developments."
